Hi, I’m Zita De Bruyn, a Cape Town–based makeup artist specialising in bridal and special occasion beauty.

My journey into makeup didn’t begin in a studio - it began at sea.

In 2013, while working on a cruise ship, I found myself constantly drawn to makeup. At every port, I would collect new products, experiment with different looks, and show up to work with a full face, not because I had to, but because I loved it.

One day, that passion turned into something more.

A bride onboard needed her makeup done for her wedding in the Bahamas, and although the spa didn’t offer makeup services, my manager thought of me. With nothing but my personal kit and a lot of heart, I did her makeup - and that moment changed everything.

It was the first time I realised that makeup could be more than just something I loved… it could be something I do.

When I returned to Cape Town, I knew I wanted to pursue makeup seriously. I joined MAC Cosmetics at their flagship store in V&A Waterfront.

Being part of MAC felt electric. I was surrounded by incredibly talented artists, constantly learning, growing, and refining my craft. It was fast-paced, creative, and inspiring - the kind of environment that pushes you to elevate your work every single day.

As part of the events team, I had the opportunity to work behind the scenes at Cape Town Fashion Week, SA Menswear Week, Cape Town Carnival and loads more, gaining invaluable experience in high-pressure environments where precision, speed, and artistry all come together.

Over time, I found myself drawn to something more personal - bridal makeup.

There’s something incredibly special about being part of a bride’s day. It’s intimate, emotional, and deeply meaningful. You’re not just creating a look - you’re holding space, calming nerves, and contributing to a moment she will remember forever.

Bridal makeup allows me to combine everything I love: artistry, connection, and the ability to create a sense of calm within what can often be a high-pressure environment.

My approach to makeup is rooted in sculpted, skin-focused beauty.

I believe in enhancing your natural features - not masking them. Think radiant, healthy skin, softly sculpted definition, and timeless finishes that look just as beautiful in person as they do in photographs.
